RWBY OC fanart/fanfiction.

Some months ago, I watched the 3D animated series „RWBY“ and I’m still fascinated by it. I not only drew fanart of characters of the show (see the RWBY page), I also started to draw own RWBY OCs, first of all the Dolphin Faunus „Zue“ Azure Turqois and her team.

Since I claimed her to be the (supposedly) sole survivor of Mountain Glenn (see below), additional to her nowadays team, the idea of depicting her in her teenager years came to my mind. Therefore, There are also drawings and character sheets of her closest circle of friends, Team AGT, back in Mountain Glenn – despite the demise that befell the city in the end.

Parts of her current team still are to be drawn, though. I’m going to draw them and their info sheets one after the other, this way also slowly revealing their full team name. With Zue herself and Oranya you already got the letters Z and O, the name of a third teammate („Namarra“) already mentioned, too.

I’m still drawing Zue’s other teammates but so far I can reveal that it will be an all Female all Faunus team who got together in the desert Kingdom of Vacuo.

Faunus are people who carry animal traits (each Faunus one single trait). There was (and still is) a lot of racism against Faunus in the world of Remnant and their work force regularly get exploited by big companies like the Schnee Dust Company.

Vacuo, however, is said to be the least racist of the four kingdoms and it doesn’t care about your past („If you can survive in Vacuo, you’re welcome“). Therefore, and because the plot of the show will take place in Vacuo (whenever Volume 10 is greenlit), it was the logical place to gather a bunch of four Faunus with a past they won’t like to talk about.

The inspiration to Zue came to me when (re)watching the RWBY episodes regarding Mountain Glenn. What happened there gave me the shivers, I just couldn’t imagine the horrors that the citizens went through: Mountain Glenn was an attempt of the Kingdom of Vale to establish a settlement in the Southeast.

It went fine for a while but it wasn’t that much protected against Grimm like Vale itself. As the end came close the citizens retreated into the caves below Mountain Glenn which had been dug to create a subway system to connect the city with Vale, sealed the ways to the surface and lived an underground city. One day, an explosion freed underground Grimm from nearby caverns. Vale sealed to subway tunnels, this way creating the biggest grave of the world.

Enter (or should I say „exit“) Azure and her Semblance, a special power that one can unlock in the world of Remnant. She wasn’t able to do a lot about the fate of her family and her friends, but with her Semblance she was able to escape when Mountain Glenn’s underground city was overran by Grimm.

Still, I needed a way to keep up with the timeline, so I would be able to depict Zue with known characters from the show. Since there are no clear info about how long back Mountain Glenn happened (most speculations are guessing 20-30 years before the start of the show), I used the drawbacks of her Semblance to get her stuck in Remnants inner parts for a not specified amount of time.

As Vacuo is said to be the least racist kingdom towards Faunus, Mistral is the most racist one. Oranya is the Jaune Arc of Haven Academy, she sneaked her way in but in contrast to Jaune she got exposed very soon and had to leave (and to change her name).

The idea of a sloth Faunus popped up in my mind even before I thought of Azure, so it was convenient that she needed a team. Oranya’s Sembance, however, came to mind when writing that Zue has a fake Huntress licence. Someone had to have to fake it: Forgery were born.

Planning and Drawing Team AGT was one of the hardest things to do because I exactly knew what will happen to their members once Mountain Glenn falls. I even already know how Gemma and Thobya came to death.

Initially, after drawing the adult version of Azure („Zue“), I wanted to show her in her teenage years (and then continue with drawing Oranya). This somehow led to a painting I lilewise already had in mind (but wanted to draw later), including her two best friends Gemma and Thobya.

I imagined them hanging out at their favorite burger place, the one we see in two of the RWBY episodes. Because there are only two short glimpses on a shattered building, some guesswork had to be done to fill this now destroyed but once thriving place with life.
