Navarra found her way to the scary Fall Island. Chased by ghosts and looking for the way through the maze of a horro house, she finally found a mask with special abilities and Gworria, once the Fall Fairy’s Champion, now a zombie. Together they freed the Fall Fairy and Navarra set out to the last Isle of Seasons, the icy Winter Island.
Day 24 „Winter Armor“
After the defeat of the Puppetmaster Fairy, Fall Island became normal. Well, Fall Island normal. There were people around, fair enough, but their huts looked … unusual. And it still was fall, of course, it was cool and windy. Following Cheio’s advice, Navarra looked for warmer clothing suited for Winter Island. She found something warm but that it was. She felt clumsy in it, she wasn’t used to these thick layers of fur and even less to boots which made her stumble more than doing safe steps. It wasn’t even an armor against foes. Well, at least it was an armor against the winter.
Day 25 „Warm Food“
Winter Island was right nearby. In fact, there was a bridge leading towards it. Roaming Fall Island Navarra had learned that Winter Island once was inhabited thanks to several hot springs due to subterranean magma spots and a widely branched cave system. With the corruption of the Winter Fairy the inhabitants moved to Fall Island and history became myth.
Navarra soon learned why the inhabitents left the isle. The wind and the cold even affected Flamelet. So, she looked for shelter. Again, Penta helped her out by pointing the way to an abandoned and collapsing town.
Day 26 „Icy Townsfolk“
No, it wasn’t the town Penta pointed to. After a warming meal Navarra recognized that there was a hole in the middle of the town. This was what Penta was pointing to. Before Navarra took off to investigate it, she put Flamelet in the now empty bottle in which she once bought the sunscreen potion on Summer Island to protect it from the wind and the heavy snow. She also left some rupee to whoever was the owner of the shack to make up for the fish they fried.
As she approached the hole she saw the ice blocks. Next thing she noticed was that there were somebody inside these blocks. The next moment she learned that not all of the inhabitants had been lucky enough to leave the island. There were movement in the blocks, ice crumbled, ice broke and then the former villagers stumbled through the snow, attacking her. Their bodies were covered in ice, in living ice which moved them around.
Without Flamelet to help her she only could punch the ice with her spear until it fell off and the villager beneath walked away. This wasn’t very effective but it worked, although it was hard work and at one point in time Gworria had to intervene: The still standing attackers seemed to have been hit by something, at least they seemed weakened, some of them losing their ice crust completely and at the same moment, Navarra felt considerably refreshed, she almost could see the reviving hearts flying towards her.
Day 27 „Heat Weapon“
Navarra didn’t know where the villagers went, back into the shacks which still were standing, probably, whereas Cheio and Penta urged her to climb down the hole. It wasn’t simply a hole, it was a cave, no, a cavern. It was warmer down here than on the surface but still there were snow under her feet. As she investigated the cavern she noticed that the snow she was walking on was lying on a sheet of ice except of a few rocks peaking through the snow.
In the centre of the cave she spotted a glow.
Day 28 „Fire/Ice Champion“
The glow came from the content of a bucket which was fixed by a chain rope to a stick.
„In these buckets we carried the lava we love so much“, a silent voice told her.
In the air a hooded ghostly figure appeared, the Subrosian Champion, „The Champion who could stand the Cold“.
From them she learned the history of this cave:
„This once was the heart of all the hot springs which brought life to Winter Island. But as the Winter Fairy got corrupted, with her mighty breeze she sealed away the lava which drove the springs, leaving uncovered only the highest peaks. So far she couldn’t touch the lava itself, yet, but the ice is constantly dripping into it, continuously growing, never stopping, turning fluids to stone. It’s only a matter of time until the lava will become solid and cold. And when the cold reaches the portal to my home, even my world has to fear the dread of the Giant Frost Fairy. I’m dead now, I am a ghost, I cannot go back and nobody in Subrosia knows what is happening here. We are a shy folk, I am the only one in an eternity who stood this long in your realm. So it is up to you to fight the Frost Fairy.“
Day 29 „Giant Frost Fairy“
„The firebucket slingshot is the key, but it needs a reminder of its former power. The Summer Champion left her secret item not only to fight the Fishing Fairy but also to ignite the winterfire again.“
It was Flamelet which sat itself on the bucket, arousing the heat and the flames of the lava therein one more time.
Not a moment too soon!
The cavern began to tremble, snow and ice fell from the ceiling and from the direction Navarra descended into the cave, a giant hairy body found its way to the ground, so giant, it almost reached to the ceiling. The Frost Fairy didn’t stop where she landed, she immediately started walking towards Navarra who had to back off. She didn’t figure out how to use the fire slingshot yet and before she could find out, the Frost Fairy blowed an icy cloud in her direction. Luckily, by now Navarra knew how to call the Champion’s ghost and she were able to avoid it by jumping in the air with the help of Pengrito’s Haste. Additionally, she did her first throw and a cometlike fireball flew straight towards the Frost Fairy. However, her breath created an ice shield which burst but protected her, sending the fireball right into the ground, leaving nothing but a steaming hole and lava beneath.
Again the Frost Fairy leapt forward, again blowing icy breath and bouncing the fireballs with icy shields. Navarra was forced to retreat backwards and the trembling which the fairy caused caused sharp icicles to fall from the ceiling. Navarra had to dodge them or to vaporize them with fire. There also were sharp icicles on the backward wall of the cavern. As Navarra arrived there, the fight already has slammed out big lumps of ice and snow off the ground, showing big holes and creaks in the cover which still was there, creaking even more where the Frost Fairy set her steps. Since she still was able to bounce Navarra’s fireballs around without getting any harm, Navarra now sent them right into the ground to the feet of the Fairy.
Then, after one last throw, the Frost Fairy fell into the lava and from the hairy body the Winter Fairy came off.
