RWBY

Recently I watched the anime inspired web show „RWBY“. The grafik style of this show (especially of the first 1-3 volumes) is something you have to get used to since it shows that it’s computer generated but plot, characters and character development soon hooked me to watch all of the 9 volumes that already aired.

I even started drawing my own OCs, describing their personalities, theis weapons, their background stories.

Falling | What are you? (Volume 9 recap)

Falling

This in particular applies to the relationship of Yang and Blake.

I like how it was done. It was a real slow burner taking almost a decade, starting in Volume 2 (or even earlier) with its ups and downs, becoming obvious in Volume 6, even more in Volumes 7 and 8 and finally culminating in one of the best confession scene (if not THE best) that I ever was able to watch in a show.

I actually planned a different art piece, but there was the urge in me to put this scene into a picture. Therefore, I also put Yang and Blake into a seperate painting.

What are you?
aka Volume 9 recap

Oddly enough, volume 9 has been my favorite volume so far. Oddly enough not only because of the strange setting, but also because, if you are honest, it’s one that in the great scheme of things doesn’t contribute much to the big plot of the show.

It is a volume to bring the main cast back – in more than one respect. And this was badly needed!

After all the events in volume 8, after all these losses of dear friends, homes, hopes to be able to fight Salem, after all these feelings among themselves, they all weren’t the same anymore, they all had ballast with them that had to be figured out. It was the right choice to give them a whole season to do exactly this.

Well, yes, they could’ve done this in a volume that would’ve drawn forward the big plot too, but there don’t might have been enough time and room to do it properly. Either it would have come too short („Huh? They just go into the next fight as if nothing happened in Volume 8?“) or it would’ve needed too much room („Huh? How dare they to figure out their feelings?! Don’t they see that Salem is going to attack right now?!“).

So, it was exactly the right thing to grant them a whole season to get back to Remnant – physically and mentally.

And, wow, it was a rollercoaster. There were action enought, action that raised the stakes, there were emotions, there was drama, the whole cast was on a journey of self-discovery.

They all by themselves had to answer the question that’s asked throughout the volume:

„What are you?“

I included some nods to characters that are dearly missed or are going to be dearly missed.

I know that Jaune is missing, but it isn’t supposed to be an exact depiction of the scene, so I stuck to the main cast.
